The second tactic or scheme of Satan is one of discouragement. He is our accuser before God. He doesn’t know our hearts, but he knows our words and deeds. He only has to inform God of what we have said or done to accuse us of being evil, sinful, and not worthy of salvation. How many people do you know who believe that God could never, would never love them? As many sink even deeper into depravity and sin, they continue to think they are beyond hope.
Revelation 12:9-10 And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, "Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night.
Satan believes that everyone is just like him. They only seek God for what He can do for them or what He would give them.
Job 1:8-11 The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil." Then Satan answered the LORD, "Does Job fear God for nothing? "Have You not made a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. "But put forth Your hand now and touch all that he has; he will surely curse You to Your face."
Here he in effect, challenges God as to who knows Job better. He is clearly accusing Job of false worship.
Zechariah 3:1-2 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. The LORD said to Satan, "The LORD rebuke you, Satan! Indeed, the LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?"
Satan is so bold that he accuses men in the very presence of God. But we have an advocate in Jesus, who sits at God’s right hand. Yes, Satan can bring accurate charges to God about us, demanding God to punish sin and sinners. But, true Christians are safe in the hands of God.
